NOW you see them, now you don't - soldiers' uniforms that change colour to blend with the surroundings. What's more, they are designed by teenagers. Hwa Chong Institution student Liew Mei Hui, 17, and Raffles Junior College's Foo Ming Qing, 18, had spent their year-end school holidays last year experimenting with 'electrochromic material'' that changes colour when an electric current is applied.
Their project was one of 44 done last year under the Young Defence Scientists Programme (YDSP), a joint effort between the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and DSO National Laboratories (DSO).
The two science students had read up about the technology and were mentored by defence scientists from defence research house Temasek Laboratories, as well as DSTA and DSO.
The duo readily admitted that the colour-changing material, ideal for camouflage, is still a work-in-progress. The material lasts about two weeks before it disintegrates.
'We hope to find ways to incorporate the electrochromic material into fabrics and make it tougher,' said Ming Qing.
Budding scientists from 11 schools showcased their works yesterday at the YDSP Congress at Raffles City Convention Centre.
Among them was a 'rail gun', developed by a team of five students from four schools, that uses electromagnetic energy to propel peanut-size projectiles.
At the event, Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean gave out 30 YDSP scholarships to students from various schools. Worth $500 for the first year, students receive another $500 in the second year if they continue to perform well academically.
Forty-five students also won YDSP academic awards, each worth $200, for topping their schools in physics and maths.
Speaking at the event, Mr Teo said the Singapore Armed Forces' ability to customise technology for its defence gives it the decisive edge.

regarding e Friday class outing
so far according e feedback gathered, two thirds of whole class will be able to make it
hope those who can turn up do come and have fun together
in e rest of our JC life, we may not have many class outings
as mr lee has said, honeymoon will end soon
e time for mugging looms
sigh....sad....
so, have fun now!
i guess my holiday is more sian and slacker than siyuan's
at least he is able and willing to jog from our school to Mount bukit timah
i just stay in my small but cosy comfort zone
watch movie, sleep, surf e internet and listen to some music
anyway, i enjoy this kind of life
i am wondering
how long all these can last...

I have no idea about the class outing... until like... yesterday. Who's going? And no... I haven't start mugging ><; Still trying to get Huang Cheng out of my system.
And yes... please please, try to be more active on the class blog! *quoting from huang cheng script* 你现在不说,什么时候说?等到老抠抠时再讲阿?*sign* I might be wrong, but I was counting the posts and I took up like... half of all the posts? Makes it look like I have plenty of slack time huh? And I do believe you all visits the library at least once a week? So please take the time to post something! I take hours to resize and post all the photos, so I believe I can ask you to take a minute to comment or say something.
Anyways....Huang Cheng has finally, after 2 and a half month, ended. For those who went to support the event, I hope you all enjoyed it. (ha, if you didn't notice I did the designing and painted a great deal of the three paintings for 玻璃鞋的情侣大比拼) We had a great time back stage *laughs* That 15s on stage is OUR performance for you! (and the rest of the time is spent poking fun at the shows *lmao*) Night sight = super zai now.
来无踪,去无踪。
我们是台上的操纵者。
十五秒的换场,是我们的表演。
The amphi is once again empty... and while I won't be so tired everyday, I can't help but miss Huang Cheng. Missing the crowded, hard to navigate and impossible to locate anything mess in the raffia-ed off dao ju area. Missing the hammering, the sawing and the songs and the random lines sung by the 木工 people. Missing the painting and drawing and my dear 美工组长 and all the fellow 道具 people. ;____;
让我们唱一首华初的歌
一首永远的歌

hi, 6k.
Here's the plan of our coming class outing:
meet at the Jurong Entertainment Centre
at 5 pm, Friday, march 16
we'll have our supper together
then can go playing pool, ice-skating or playing in the arcade
the reason why we have it at night is because
that's the time when most ppl can turn up.
see you there!

PLEASE. IM SO DESPERATE IM RESORTING TO THIS.

Remember the projectile enrichment tutorial Mr Koh gave us, the one where we were asked to read up on relative velocity? You would have noticed the part in the textbook regarding winds blowing aircraft off-course, and the pilot having to turn into the wind to correct for the drift. So here are 2 videos, to show just how much trouble these nasty winds can cause.
Video 1: Boeing's Crosswind Landing Flight Tests (B777-200, B747SP, B777-300) The jets here are being tested to see how they respond to landing with severe crosswinds (the winds are 60 knots, gusting to 70), so no passengers.
