Hello class, this is your class aviation freak. Ever wondered how it feels like to be driving behind a 747 as it starts its takeoff? How would you interpret the following data: Each engine produces 58K pounds of thrust at takeoff setting, and the 747-400 has got 4 of them.

Here, Mythbusters (I think it is a programme by the BBC, not sure about it) worked with Virgin Atlantic to give us an idea just what these numbers mean.



Ok. If you haven't realised, they only used the 2 inboard engines (2 and 3) so you can imagine the effects if all 4 were running. Would anyone like to calculate the force the 2 cars experienced? I think the fact that the exhaust spreads out should be considered as well, but I have no idea how much the spread is.
